Michael Kors Gets Married
On Tuesday, in a private ceremony on Dune Beach, Michael Kors married longtime partner Lance LePere. LePere and Kors met in 1990 when LePere started working as an intern for Kors’s company, and they have been together ever since. The ceremony was officiated by Mark Epley, the mayor of Southampton. Kors told Women’s Wear Daily, "To marry someone as wonderful and special to me as Lance barefoot on a glorious beach is more than I could have dreamed of." He told People Magazine, "Lance and I are very excited to finally be able to have the opportunity to marry in our home state after many years together." Apparently, happiness was all around.
Kors is currently a judge on Project Runway, but also designs some iconic American fashion. He started designing clothes at 19 years old. In 1981, after studying design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, he started his Michael Kors womenswear line at several major retailers including Lord & Taylor, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdales. He was then named the first women’s ready-to-wear designer and creative director at Celine, a French fashion house, in 1997. He launched a menswear line in 2002 and left Celine in 2003.
He has launched several lines since, as well as designed clothes for many famous women, including Michelle Obama and Heidi Klum.
Same-sex marriage was legalized in New York on June 23, 2011 making it possible for many couples – famous and not – to be married legally in the state. Couples were allowed to apply for marriage licenses thirty days after the law took effect.
